Complete delivery and implementation of an emergency braking system for a total of 11 bridge cranes designed to handle liquid metal, which resulted in a substantial increase in operational safety in key technological sections.
The emergency braking systems were developed on the basis of Královo Pole Cranes a.s.'s own design proposal, supplemented by comprehensive design documentation and strength control calculations of all crane parts subject to extraordinary braking effects.
The emergency braking system is designed as an independent supplementary safety system, capable of stopping the load even in the event of a mechanical interruption of the kinematic chain between the electric motor and the cable drum - i.e. in the event of gearbox, shaft, clutch or gearing failure. This means that even if the main drive fails, the system reliably prevents the uncontrolled fall of the load, in this case a casting pan with liquid metal.
Each system consists of hydraulic disc or caliper brakes of a new type series installed on the crane's cable drums, supplemented by a hydraulic unit with a hand pump for emergency start-up in the event of a power failure and control electronics with speed sensors and brake function control. The installation also included modifications to the cat frame, reinforcement of the supporting elements, installation of new stools, brackets and brake discs (drums), and connection of new wiring to the existing crane control system.
The project also included chief assembly, cooperation in adjustment, recovery of both sets and commissioning, including official tests, expert opinions of TI SR and revision and functional tests.
The result is a technically advanced, redundant safety solution that significantly increases the level of protection for personnel and equipment when handling extremely hazardous loads. This project confirms the ability of Královo Pole Cranes a.s. to develop and implement special safety systems for cranes operating in the most demanding industrial conditions.
