Crane traverses

Crane traverses are specific handling devices for lifting and carrying loads ranging from common parts to very special technological pieces including hot metallurgical products or casting pans. The load capacities of these devices range from hundreds of kilograms to hundreds of tons depending on the specific application. The traverses are supplied as removable, usually suspended from a hook pulley, or as permanently suspended directly from the crane's support ropes. This includes simple beam traverses with various suspension elements, special casting traverses with slat hooks and clamp traverses for handling finished products, or with the ability to rotate around a vertical axis.

Standard crane traverses are used to safely distribute forces when handling large or complex shaped loads. They allow multi-point suspension, reduce local stresses and increase load stability during lifting and precise settling.

They are typically used for the handling of sheet metal, coils, slabs, profiles, frames, structural units or bundles of material and for assembly operations or loading and unloading in restricted clearance areas.

We custom design and manufacture traverses to specific dimensions, weight, gripping method and crane hook, including environmental finishes. Of course, load protocols, material approvals and load marking in accordance with EN 13155 are a matter of course.

Casting beams are special suspension beams for safe gripping, balancing and controlled casting of liquid metal in foundries and steelworks. They are designed for high thermal stresses, frequent working cycles and precise control of the tilt or rotation of the casting pan, including fine metal dosing.

They are custom made according to the type of pan, suspension method and handling required, with the possibility of integration into existing cranes and technologies.

The traverses have a robust welded construction made of high-strength steel, heat shields and refractory elements for resistance to radiant heat and thermal shock, clearly defined hanging points and ergonomic controls or mechanical or motor drives.

Clamp-on mechanical traverses

Mechanical clamp traverses are designed for handling heavy and bulky gates made of steel, aluminium or other metals. They allow the gate to be gripped from the side without the use of tie-downs, which significantly reduces handling time and limits personnel movement in the danger zone.

The traverse is equipped with two pairs of robust clamps that automatically clamp when lowered and then lifted, distributing the forces evenly over the load, reducing the risk of surface damage.

Typical applications are metallurgical and steel works, heavy engineering and loading or unloading of slabs from wagons and transport trolleys. The construction of high-strength materials is rated for very heavy gates and ensures a long service life even in harsh environments.

Clamp-on hydraulic traverses

The hydraulically driven clamp traverses are designed to handle hot and cold slabs and sheets in a wide range of sizes. The hydraulically operated jaws ensure a constant clamping force and enable precise, safe gripping and load removal even under difficult operating conditions.

The traverses are suitable for operations with high handling intensity and a requirement for repeatability - they can be operated from the crane operator's cab or by remote control. The robust design is engineered for metallurgical environments, complete with jaw position sensors, clamp control and emergency load release safety.
